From fake job offers to deepfake videos that tarnish political candidates, cybercriminals are becoming more creative and dangerous. DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy warns that these threats are no accident—they are deliberate attempts to confuse voters, steal information, and manipulate outcomes. The emergence of IMSI catchers, capable of secretly harvesting mobile data, only increases the urgency of strengthening cybersecurity measures.
Yet this battle extends beyond election integrity; it impacts everyday Filipinos. With over 86 million Filipinos active on social media, cyber scams, fake news, and misleading advertisements spread faster than ever. Recognizing this, DICT has ramped up cybersecurity awareness efforts, banning clickable links in official texts and launching initiatives like Cyber-Bantay. The message is clear: cybersecurity is no longer optional. In today’s Philippines, spotting online threats is just as vital as casting your vote.
